EE and EA Words – Vowel Team Spelling Practice

Learn and practice words with the vowel teams EE and EA. Both patterns often make the long E sound, as in see and team.

What are vowel teams?

A vowel team is two vowels that work together to make one vowel sound.

Two common long E patterns are:

ee – see, green, feet
ea – team, read, beach

EE and EA spelling patterns

There is no single rule that always tells children whether to use ee or ea, but some patterns are useful:

  • EE often appears in the middle or at the end of words: green, sleep, tree, three
  • EA often appears in the middle of words: team, clean, beach, dream

Most words in this practice use the long E sound. EA can also make other sounds in some English words, so learning common word patterns is helpful.

Practice EE and EA Words

In SpellingCraft’s Listen and Spell exercise, children hear a word and type the correct spelling.

Words with ee and ea are mixed and randomized so children practice recognizing the correct spelling pattern.
